Tree Cutter
While it might sound like a piece of equipment used to take down trees, tree cutters are the people who cut down trees among other things. As you can imagine, this is an important job that many folks will hire out when the time comes.
There are three important categories that a tree cutter can fall into: logging equipment operators, loggers, and the trimmers and pruners. Each of the categories features trained professionals that have been educated and know the behaviors of trees. They need to know everything from what makes them grow to what makes them die and everything in between. Knowing this makes for safer maintenance, planting, and removal of trees. |
Logging equipment operators have a job description that does not deviate far from the name itself. This is a person who can operate the necessary equipment that takes down and transports trees. They will operate bulldozing tractors and other special vehicles designed to remove trees and transport logs.
Loggers can be “fallers” or “buckers” or both. This is also the most common or most popular form of tree cutter. They will have a deep understanding of tree characteristics and techniques for tree cutting. A faller is one who uses hand tools to “fell” a tree. Knowing tree characteristics and cutting techniques will help the faller to control the direction the tree falls and minimize the risk. Using tools like a handsaw or chainsaw, they can remove large trees. Buckers will be those who trim the tree or cut up the logs to be a certain size.
Tree trimmers and pruners are typically included in the grounds maintenance staff. They are hired to shape, train, and facilitate the care of trees. They can be hired to do regular maintenance, seasonal work, or just occasionally.
These jobs, though unique in their responsibilities, are in the logging industry, which is not expected to see much growth in the next few years.
